Craig Anthony Miller, or CAM, is a visual artist born and raised in Brooklyn, who found his artistic calling at the intersection of his environment and natural inclinations. Graduating with a BFA in Graphic Design from Saint John’s University, he transitioned to self-taught painting after a pivotal live painting experience in Alphabet City, NYC, in 1996. In 2002, he left behind a burgeoning graphic design career to fully embrace painting.
CAM's distinct style draws from stained glass art, seen in his Brooklyn childhood church windows. The blend of stained-glass aesthetics, layering techniques, and graffiti dynamics defines his signature. He not only paints on canvas, but also on various surfaces ranging from metal to wood; his paintings heavily feature animal totems like birds, elephants, and deities, which evoke symbolic, uplifting meanings.
Themes of resilience and growth are prevalent in his work. Through series like Totem-UpFLOW, which capture Koi fish swimming upstream, CAM paints determination and rebirth. CAM includes personal mantras like "Always Be Mindful of Your Ability to Fly" into his work, infusing his art with empowering messages.
Based in Dumbo, NYC since 2004, CAM's art is integral to the community. Focused on the importance of giving back, he mentors emerging artists and dedicates himself to supporting local schools through fundraising events. His mural practice, originating in Dumbo, now graces cities across the US, illustrating a journey from Brooklyn roots to acclaimed painter, fueled by self-discovery and artistic passion.
